Borovets is the oldest and the biggest mountain resort in Bulgaria and is just 65km from Sofia (about an hour drive). Established back in the 19th century and known as Chamkoria (Pine Forest), it was destination for the noble. But it is during the 1970s that the resort transformed into what it is today- large hotels and modern sport facilities. There are plenty of ski/snowboard slopes (among century old pine woods)- 24 trails with a total length of over 58 km. In addition, the resort has cross-country skiing tracks that are over 35km long, biathlon, night skiing facilities and more. Borovets was twice a host to World Cup Alpine Skiing rounds and is a popular destination for many British tourists.
