On a business trip in Sofia with few days left to explore. Consider a nice escape to the beautiful Pirin Mountain.
It is the Bulgaria's second highest mountain, with highest peak Vihren (2,914m). There are 176 mountain lakes and about 100 varieties of rare plants, including the edelweiss and the famous Baikousheva fir. A large part of the mountain is encompassed in Pirin National Park and is included in the UNESCO Heritage List.

Day 1

Locations: Sofia Basnko (160km, 2H)

Depar for Bankso, the current most popular ski resort, situated at the foot of the Vihren peak. The town of Bansko has developed into a ski resort of European and global magnitude, and recently have was the host of a number of World Cup competitions in both alpine skiing and biathlon. Yet in spring, summer and fall, Bansko is the focal point for hiking, horse back riding, golfing or simply enjoying the breathtaking beauty of Pirin.

Day 2

Locations: Bansko

Day for your favorite activities.

Hike choices are endless, from easy, to moderate, to the most challengine one- concurring the Vihren summit.

Bike routes are also plenty of different difficulty and length. Choose from horseback riding, fishing in the nearby rivers and streams or have a round of golf at Pirin Golf Resort. If you prefer some soaking into natural springs, there are several choices around Bansko- from 5 min to about an hour trip.

The Old Town of Bansko is really well worth exploring, as it preserves its historic character and charm and there are multiple museums and landmarks of national significance. You can visit the museum-house of the poet Nikola Vaptsarov, the Velyanova House, the museum house of Neofit Rilski or the Icon Exhibition. The town is full of traditional restaurants, called mahanas, serving local culinary specialties as well as the customary Bulgarian cuisine.

Day 3

Locations: Bansko Rila Monastery (100km, 1H30min) Sofia (125km, 1H30min)

In the early afternoon, on the way to Sofia, visit the spectacular Rila Monastery, the biggest and most famous monastery of Bulgaria. Surrounded by 20 m-high stone walls, the monastery includes the monastery courtyard, the Birth of the Virgin Mary Temple, Hrelyo’s Tower, the museum and the residential and the farming buildings. There are around 300 rooms in the monastery, 100 of which are monastic cells.
