Nesebar is the other ancient coastal town on the Black Sea, with rich history and marvelous architectural landmarks- over 40 churches, ruins from fortress walls and ancient settlements. The Old Town lies on a small peninsula, and because of its exceptional cultural and historical value, it has been declared a UNESCO heritage site.

Thracians were one of the first settlers at the end of the Bronze Age. They were succeeded by the Dorians (ancient Greek tribe) around 6th century BC, under whose control the settlement flourished: a fortification wall was built and residential quarters emerged. At the beginning of the 1st century, Nesebar fell under the rule of the Roman Empire and continued to be an important economic and cultural centre. It is during the times when Christianity became an official religion, that the building of many Christian temples begun, some of which are still standing today. Nesebar was also an important marine port during the First and Second Bulgarian Empires.

Accommodations in the Old Town are in guest house, while the New Town has larger and modern as well as family style hotels. The choices of dining and entertainment are many, including in the nearby mega resort of Sunny Beach as well as in the “next door” town of Ravda.
