In the heart of the Rhodope mountains is Pamporovo, the pearl of all Bulgarian mountain resorts. Situated at the foot of Snezhanka peak (1926 meters), the resort is 260km from the capital Sofia, 85km south of Plovdiv. There are 37km slopes in Pamporovo, and almost all of them start from Snezhanka peak, with different levels of difficulty. Various categories of accommodation can be found in Pamporovo – luxurious hotels&spas, family hotels and apartment hotels.

The town of Chepelare, just 10km away from Pamporovo, adds 20km more of slopes. It is also home to the one and only Ski Museum in Bulgaria, which exposition features the development of ski and ski sports in the town and the country. The local people offer accommodation in cozy guest houses and visitors are welcome to soak into the traditional atmosphere and taste the delicious Rhodope cuisine.

-          Museum of Rhodope Karts

-          Ski Museum

Day 5

Locations: Shiroka Laka

16 km away from Pamporovo is the architectural reserve of Shiroka Laka. The village has preserved its architecture from the Bulgarian Revival Period and is famous for its beautiful, authentic Rhodope houses and rich folklore traditions. If you are vacationing in Pamporovo or Chepelare end of February, early March, then a visit to Shiroka Laka is a must. The village hosts its annual Mummers Festival called Pesponedelnik every first Sunday of March and is a fantastic opportunity to experience a fragment of Bulgaria’s culture and traditions. The huge Kukeri (mummer-monsters) dance and sing around the streets to scare away all evil away.
We also recommend to visit Zgurovski konak Ethnographic Museum.
